Challenge
Crate and Pallet manufacturers a full line of the highest quality new and re-manufactured pallets in custom sizes and designs. Crate and Pallet workers were having difficulty working effectively in the low light conditions caused by insufficient lumen output and exacerbated by frequent lamp failures of the legacy lighting system. Safety concerns were present throughout interior plant operations and security concerns were prevalent in outdoor facility spaces.
Solution
LightEdison specified and installed 535 fixture retrofits, 24 fixture replacements and 6 lamp replacements increasing ambient light levels in the facility by more than 20%, while also improving safety and worker productivity. 400 watt high bay fixtures were retrofitted with 130 watt retrofit kits designed to last more than 20-years. Appropriately cooler lighting color temperatures and fixture outputs were specified for Crate and Pallet operations to maximize operational impacts per dollar spent. The addition of fixtures on the exterior of the facility illuminated all previously vulnerable spaces reducing crime and vandalism. Overall lighting energy use was reduced by more than 55% even with the addition of fixtures and significant increases in illumination.
Results
Crate and Pallet has avoided paying a net $256,000 in direct lighting costs over the next 10 years and these benefits are marginal compared to increased safety and improved facility yields that can now be realized.
